How Your Music Gets Made

Step 1: Consultation

We meet, ideally face to face. We talk through your ideas, the message you want to express, the emotions you want to invoke in your audience, the mood you want to create, the genre you want your music to represent, whether you require instrumental only or lyrics and a vocalist and so on. Anything is possible.

Step 2: Draft Approval

We meet again, so you can audition and approve a sample of the sort of music I have produced to address your needs. At this stage, the music is not fully instrumented, but synthesised so we can move forward quickly. We do this once or twice before:

Step 3: Composition and Instrumentation

Your approval gained, the serious composition starts, committing the music to high-quality, sample-based instruments hosted on a computer, as used by most TV programmes etc. You may of course also choose to use recordings of live musicians.

Step 4: Mastering

The work is nearly complete. Now it is given atmosphere and a final polish before delivery in your preferred format, e.g. CD or WAV file or compressed to MP3 for Internet use.

Step 5: Licensing

The business end - your broadcast and usage rights.
